Oda Nobunaga was a powerful daimyo of Japan in the late 16th century who attempted to unify Japan during the late Sengoku era. Oda Nobunaga was born in 1534 in Owari Province. In 1549 he succeeded father and by 1560 controlled all of Owari and had defeated the neighboring overlord.
His talents in politics, warfare, administration, and leadership surpassed all others and allowed him to pursue his dream of unifying Japan. Japan had lost its central government at that time, the Ashikaga shogun was weak and had little power over the regional daimyo and decades of civil war had left the nation ravaged and distraught.
With his superior physical ability and hard-bitten athletic capability, Oda Nobunaga led many battles to the miraculous victory. In 1582, Oda was unmatched; however, he grew careless. Akechi Mitsuhide organized a coup to usurp Nobunaga. Oda Nobunaga was killed fighting the coup. His life would be cut tragically short by a traitorous vassal’s rebellion.
